Choosing chrome wall lights

Chrome is the only cool metal here, and that is the whole reason to choose it. Brass and copper both push a room warmer whether you wanted that or not; chrome leaves the temperature alone and reflects whatever is already in the room.

The risk with chrome is that it goes clinical, and the wood is what stops it. On walnut especially — dark, figured, unmistakably a natural material — the combination reads as considered rather than bathroom-fitting. On oak it is lighter and more neutral. On beech it is the palest, quietest version of this light you can order.

It sits well in rooms that already have steel, glass or grey in them, and beside anything modern. A brass or copper bulb holder on a chrome arm is the two-tone version, and it is a bolder choice than it sounds.
